New Student Orientation
Each semester, incoming students attend a program designed to ease the transition into college
life and to aquaint them with the programs available at SPSF/BC. These orientations allow students
to express their feelings, addressing their fear of returning to school and facing life's barriers.
Students work in groups to experience trust and teamwork.
Counseling / Career Guidance
SPSF/BC offers counseling for students and their children to help overcome barriers caused by hardships,
such as physical or emotional abuse, limited education and/or lack of food and housing. The counseling
and career guidance include career guidance meetings, phone meetings, and one-on-one counseling sessions.
These programs guide students in considering future career opportunities and how to maximize the education
they receive.
Tutoring
Going back to school can be challenging, especially when a student is also working and raising children.
SPSF/BC offers tutoring assistance for the students who need a little extra help along the way.
The Giving Tree
Each year, businesses and individuals donate gifts to help SPSF/BC single parents provide a "Blessed Christmas"
for their children.
Street Smarts
Street Smarts is a workshop designed to help graduating students with resume writing, interviewing and
negotiating skills. Each year, many students receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity from one
of the most prestigious executive recruiting firms, Cameron Smith & Associates.
Alumni Council
The Alumni Council provides support to students. Graduates serve as advocates to current
students and their families. The Alumni Council also co-hosts the annual Spring Awards Ceremony and hosts a Graduate
Reception in the spring, the Fall Family Fun Festival and the SPSF/BC Christmas party.
